Madre

"Madre" is a compelling short film that masterfully builds tension through a harrowing scenario. The narrative follows a mother's journey from a seemingly ordinary moment to a waking nightmare as she is separated from her daughter.

The film's strength lies in its ability to evoke a deep sense of a parent's worst fear. It transitions from a quiet, character-driven setup to a gut-wrenching climax, leaving the audience with a powerful emotional impact and a sense of unresolved suspense. This project is an excellent example of using minimalist storytelling to create a high-stakes, dramatic experience.

This project was commissioned by Prosper Project Australia with a dual focus on both creative output and mentorship. As a director, Christopher worked alongside other industry professionals to mentor a team of close to two dozen students and young filmmakers.

The production was a rewarding educational experience, spanning three days and 40 hours on set. Throughout the shoot, the team grew from a group of individuals new to a professional production to confident crew members commanding key roles, including boom operator, script supervisor, and DIT. This collaborative environment ensured the film's creative vision was realized while fostering a new generation of on-set talent.
